SN centerpiece autograph ref

This is just a close up of the base of my centerpiece. I took little photos of each actor and linked them to the signatures, to share on here, but also so I'll remember who's is who's since some are hard to decipher. Please checkout my gallery for more views of the entire piece .

I just did this for last weekend's Supernatural convention 2011 (out in LA). There was a centerpiece contest at the desert party on Saturday night, and I WON ! The prize was a gift certificate for the Creation Entertainment merchandise, for $250.00! I've never had that much to burn on simple goodies, so it was nice to have that much to spend completely guilt free. I also got 6 of the actors from the show to autograph the map base .

Was really neat, I got a ton of compliments, and people asking if they could take photos of it . And the show runner had me get up on stage with the mic and explain HOW I made it and what the theme was. Thankfully I don't seem to get stage fright, lol. Basically the theme I was going for, was a family tree type thing...

The base is a real hubcap I found in our garage. On top of it, is a road map of Kansas (including Lawrence where the Winchesters lived). The Dean figure is a casting from my sculpture, that I roughed up with a dremmel drill to make it look rugged and organic. The branches are some floral wire I bought, that I shaped like the tree Sam drew in John's journal. The photos I found online and tweaked in Photoshop (smudge tool and colorization mainly). I wanted to do a very specific color theme. I did everyone related by blood in sepia tones, but did the Impala screenshot, Castiel, and Bobby in a blueish green to match the blue lines on the road map . The photos were then printed out on card stock, and I slightly bent them to a curve by hand. For a finishing touch, I lit a stick of incense and singed the edges of each picture, along with the map.

So, as a final piece, it all ties together . Themes are mainly family, but I also gave it a road trip feel with the map and hubcap. I coated the pictures and figure with miniwax, and diamond glaze for a finishing touch and for durability. Also note that the vine that forms the tree is coming out of Dean's chest, connecting it all together. I drilled a whole in the figure's chest, so the wire/branch is actually embedded.

Anyways, hope you enjoy looking at this. If anyone is interested in owning a piece like this? I can make you one for $350.00...why so much? Because this took ALLOT of time and supplies, lol. And due to the nature of the process (with the singing and everything)...it's a one of a kind type of art piece. I still have all the pictures saved in case there's ever a reason to make another one, and there are a couple more hubcaps (same kind) in the garage.
